Activities - Sessions

  ~Arts & Crafts~
The Arts & Crafts Shack has everything a camper needs to create those special "I made this for you" camp crafts. Campers can choose from a variety of projects including bead crafts, candles, the ever-popular lanyard, spin art, tie die, as well as special projects that coincide with the year's theme.

  ~Archery~
The Camp Saint Andrews archery program is a member of JOAD (Junior Olympic Archery Development). As a JOAD certified program campers not only learn the basic skills needed for archery, but if they desire, can attempt to qualify for JOAD Certificates. These certificates, suitable for framing, are awarded for completion of different levels of achievement based on age, distance from target, and score achieved. Along with each level of qualification achieved, campers are also awarded a JOAD arm patch signifying the level achieved.

  ~Hikes & Nature~
Our Nature program is not only a well-planned activity, but an ever-present background to the entire camp week. Thanks to the beautiful surroundings of Jeffrey Pines, streams, river, and massive rock formations, campers cannot help but appreciate the environment. The planned nature hikes and activities in years past have included glacier-cooled ice caves, mammoth ancient trees, and evening astronomy lessons with telescopes.

  ~Knots & Music~
KNOTS: During the week campers are challenged to follow directions posted around camp to make various types of knots. At the end of the week each Unit selects their knot champion to compete in the timed "knot off" to determine the Grand Knot Masters.

MUSIC: One of our more recent activity additions provides campers with the opportunity to learn some basic guitar chords, culminating in the opportunity to play an actual song (as a group) during evening campfire. Alternatively, those already familiar with the guitar can be taught more techniques based upon their current level of skill.

  ~Rocks & Ropes~
ROCK CLIMBING: While supervised directly by the certified staff of the Jack Hazard facility campers are harnessed and secured by safety lines and given a chance to not only climb up the face of a variety of shear rock faces, but then to rappel back down to the comfort of firm ground. Even though they are secured by safety lines, each climber must rely on his or her own talents and strength to complete their quest. Instruction, moral support, and help is readily given to those who need it.

ROPES COURSE: Whether it is solo or tandem challenges, the facility ropes course has a challenge for everyone. For those who want to test their steel, the "High" course offers a variety of challenges approximately 20 feet above the ground. Completely supervised by the Jack Hazard resident staff, and secured by safety lines and harnesses, many of our campers and staff have been able to conquer their physical and mental limits. For those not ready to start off so high, the "Low" course offers many challenges, but with the added security of only being 2 feet off the ground.

  ~Swimming~
Always supervised by certified Lifeguards the camp swimming pool is a favorite spot of both campers and staff. Whether it is to cool off from the afternoon sun, or to soak up some of the sun's rays there is sure to always be a gathering at this location.
